BOAT SHUTTLE What does a water-access only property mean? We do not have access to a road for vehicles. Guests may only arrive through water transportation. Guests are responsible for bringing all food and other supplies for the duration of their stay. We do not provide shuttles for guests to leave and return to the property throughout their stay, with some exceptions for longer stays (inquiry basis only). Upon request, you may also arrive in your own boat vessel (maximum size is 30 ft.). PLEASE NOTE: The cost of running a water-access only retreat is significantly higher than a retreat accessible by land. Our boat shuttle is quite labor and fuel intensive and the pricing of your booking is reflective of these costs. Late Boat Shuttles: If you are at Rocky Point and you do not see the boat at your scheduled time, do not panic Just like many other transportation services, operations, weather, timeliness of previous guests, and many other factors affect the ability of our boat captain to arrive on-time. We try our best to arrive on-time, but we may arrive 5-15 minutes late. Our boat driver knows how many groups and guests are scheduled for a boat shuttle and will not leave without each group unless you are more than 15 minutes late. Guests Running Late: If you are more than 15 minutes, please inform our boat captain by calling the phone line 604 559 2484, line 1 Our boat captain may need to leave with other groups and return to Rocky Point, and you will be charged a $100 fee. Standard Schedule: We combine multiple guest groups into one boat shuttle to minimize trips. Because of this, we avoid custom shuttle times unless necessary. Large Groups: If you booked multiple units and have more than 11 guests, we will provide more than one shuttle. Our team will contact you directly to coordinate shuttle times for your group. The skytrain station \"Moody Centre Station\" is located about a 5-10 minute walk from the Rocky Point Public Boat Launch. Weather: How do I prepare for various weather conditions for the boat? Although our tritoon boat has a canopy, passengers may still be exposed to rain, wind, and cold temperatures. Please dress warmly and bring rain and windgear protection for your safety. Parking: Where is parking located and how do I register? Location: 2529 Spring Street, Port Moody, behind the Legion Club Distance to Rocky Point: The parking garage is located a 10-minute walk from the Rocky Point Public Boat Launch We advise guests to first drop off some group members with luggage at the boat launch before parking their vehicles and walking back to Rocky Point. Safety: The parking garage is locked every night for vehicle safety. However, please note that we are not responsible for any loss or damage to your vehicle. ON-SITE TRANSPORTATION What do I do with my luggage when I arrive to Cape Carraholly Retreat? Cape Carraholly Retreat is not suitable for guests with mobility issues. Our on-site team will transport your luggage from the top of the dock to your unit. Walking:Upon arrival, guests are responsible for walking to their accommodations. Please be aware that some units are located approximately a 5-10 minute walk from the dock Access requires walking over gravel roads and natural trails, which can include steep or uneven terrain. Supplies: For your comfort and safety, we strongly recommend wearing sturdy footwear and bringing a flashlight, particularly if you plan to arrive after dark or explore the property during limited daylight hours. Mobility: The retreat may not be suitable for guests with mobility challenges. AMENITIES What is the kitchen and food situation at the property?Our property is a remote hospitality retreat designed for a peaceful, off-grid experience. As such, there are no restaurants or grocery stores within accessible distance, so guests are responsible for bringing all necessary food and beverage supplies for the full duration of their stay. Kitchen Amenities: Cabins: Full-size refrigerator and freezer Stovetop and oven Pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and basic cooking tools Drip Coffee maker (filters provided) BBQ Yurts and Dome: Stovetop (no oven) Mini-fridge with a small freezer compartment Pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and basic cooking tools French press for coffee BBQ Please note: The freezer space in the yurts' mini-fridges is very limited and best suited for small items like ice packs. Beach Shack: Enjoy a cozy evening by the water at our beach shack, complete with a propane fire pit and comfortable seating along the shoreline. Gazebo: Our large 20 ft x 20 ft gazebo is ideal for group activities, casual hangouts, or small events. It provides covered shelter for socializing in all weather. If the gazebo has been booked for an event, any other guests on the property will be notified. Swing: A charming swing overlooking the ocean offers a peaceful place to unwind. Kayaks do not need to be booked but are rather accessible on a first-come, first-serve basis. Crabbing & Fishing: Crab traps are provided, but guests must bring their own crab bait. A valid BC tidal waters license is required for both crabbing and fishing-please secure your license before arrival. Fishing gear is not provided, so be sure to bring your own if you plan to fish. Trails range from easy walks to more challenging hikes-perfect for nature lovers of all experience levels. 4. Guest Capacity & Restrictions What is the maximum number of guests allowed per unit? Cabins: Feature 3 bedrooms and can host a maximum of 6 guests. Yurts/ Dome: Feature 1 bed and can host a maximum of 2 guests. Are pets allowed at the retreat? Safety What marine safety measures are in place for the boat shuttle? Your safety on the water is a top priority at Cape Carraholly Retreat. Our boat shuttle is equipped with life jackets in a range of sizes for both adults and children. Flotation devices and other marine safety equipment are always onboard. All boat operators hold a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) or Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certification. Operators are also trained in marine emergency response procedures, ensuring safe and competent handling in all situations. What emergency procedures are in place on the property? We are committed to maintaining a safe environment for all guests. Here's what you need to know: Each unit contains instructions for a fire emergency response. A list of emergency contact numbers is also provided in every unit for quick access. In case of a medical or life-threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately. Emergency services can access the retreat via a private road, even though we are water-access-only for all other operations. What should I know about bear safety? Cape Carraholly Retreat is located in a remote, natural setting that is home to wildlife, including bears. We are thrilled to host you at our remote, water-access-only property. To ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable stay for everyone, please review and follow the house rules outlined below. Boat Shuttle Arrive early for your scheduled boat shuttle. If you are more than 15 minutes late for the scheduled departure, you may miss your shuttle and will need to reschedule. A $100 rebooking fee will apply. We cannot guarantee the availability of a later shuttle, so please plan accordingly-treat your shuttle time as you would a flight departure. Always follow instructions from the boat captain, who is certified and trained in marine safety. Towels: Due to very limited on-site laundry facilities, each guest receives 1 towel Towels are for indoor use only Guests are responsible for bringing their own outdoor towels for outdoor facilities including the sauna, kayaks, hot tub, etc. Wildlife Safety Never leave food, garbage, luggage, dishes, or scented items unattended outdoors. In yurts and the dome, all food must be stored in the designated, locked cabinet. Do not approach or feed wildlife, including bears and other animals. Make noise while hiking (e.g., talk, play music, or wear a bear bell) to avoid surprising wildlife. BBQ: Clean the BBQ thoroughly after each use using the provided scrub brush. Dispose of food scraps along the bottom of the BBQ and wipe clean Always close the BBQ lid and remove all food and utensils from the surrounding area after cooking. Never leave a BBQ unattended. Please note: Dirty BBQs attract bears-please be diligent. Outdoor Fires Only propane fire-pits are permitted; no wood burning fires outdoors are permitted Use fire pits sparingly-propane is costly and must be conserved. Never leave fire pits unattended. Use only in designated areas. Indoor Fireplace: Only burn provided firewood: Do not burn driftwood, garbage, or plastic, which can release toxic fumes. Do not leave fire unattended: Always extinguish the fire before sleeping or leaving the unit. Septic & Plumbing: Do not flush wipes, feminine products, or anything other than toilet paper in toilets- our septic system is sensitive Follow instructions carefully for toilets at yurts & dome Entry Doors & Wildlife Prevention: Keep all doors closed at all times to prevent wildlife from entering your unit. For fresh air, use screened windows instead of propping doors open. Hot Tubs: Shower before entering to help maintain water cleanliness. Rinse your feet using the designated foot rinse bin located outside the hot tub. Do not adjust the temperature unless absolutely necessary. If you do make changes, please return the setting to its original maximum temperature before leaving. Do not turn off the hot tub. Hot tubs take a long time to reheat, and turning it off may affect the experience of the next guests Never place the hot tub cover on the ground. Use the provided patio area or designated cover stand to avoid damage and contamination. Food is not permitted in the hot tub. Beverages should be in non-breakable containers only. Never use the hot tub alone. For your safety, always enjoy the hot tub with another person present. Children must be supervised at all times. Use of the hot tub is not recommended for young children or individuals with certain medical conditions. Limit soak times to avoid overheating or dehydration, especially during warm weather. Have patience with hot tub readiness. Our team works hard to ensure the hot tubs are clean and ready for each reservation. However, turnaround time between guests is limited. If the previous group left the hot tub in poor condition, it may take longer to clean and reheat. While the hot tubs are almost always ready by the time your stay begins, in rare cases they may not reach full temperature until later in the evening of your arrival day.To help us keep things running smoothly for everyone, please follow the posted hot tub guidelines and keep the hot tub as clean as possible during your stay. Furniture & Outdoor Items Return patio and indoor furniture to its original location before check-out. If you used patio cushions, please return them to the laundry room to protect from rain. Garbage & Recycling Use the labeled bins for garbage, compost, and recycling. Never leave waste outside-this attracts wildlife. Help us protect the environment by limiting single-use plastics. Visitors: Only registered guests are allowed on the property unless pre-approved by management. Hosting unregistered visitors may result in additional charges or removal from the retreat. Respect Our Off-Grid Systems Power, water, and Wi-Fi are limited and may be affected by weather. Please be mindful of your resource usage, including propane and electricity. Embrace the slower pace-this is part of the retreat experience. Children Supervision Children must be supervised at all times, especially around water, cliffs, fire pits, and wildlife. The property is not childproof and the units are not equipped with child specific supplies such as cribs, child friendly dishes, or safety gates. Natural hazards are present throughout the retreat. All guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Parents and caregivers are fully responsible for the safety and wellbeing of their children at all times. Emergency Preparedness Familiarize yourself with the fire safety plan and emergency contacts, located in your unit. Exercise caution around open water, hot tubs, and rugged terrain. Call 911 for any life-threatening emergencies. Fire Safety: Do not use candles indoors: Battery-operated lanterns or LED lights are provided as a safer alternative. Fire extinguishers: Located in each unit-please familiarize yourself with their location upon arrival. Reporting Issues Guests are responsible for reporting any issues with plumbing, electrical, or appliances as soon as possible. Timely reporting allows us to address the issue quickly and maintain comfort for all guests. Anti-Harassment Policy We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for abusive, aggressive, or disrespectful behavior toward staff-whether in person, over the phone, or in writing. We reserve the right to report or remove individuals who violate this policy. Smoking & Substances Smoking and vaping are prohibited indoors and only in designated outdoor areas The use or possession of illegal substances is strictly prohibited. Alcohol: Alcohol must be consumed responsibly- excessive drinking, intoxication, or disruptive behaviour is not tolerated and staff may intervene if behaviour becomes unsafe or disrespectful Glass bottles should only be used indoors and not within hot tubs or outdoor, communal areas to avoid breakage and injury. Guests must not share alcohol with guests from different groups If a guest becomes unruly or unsafe, staff may confiscate alcohol or ask the guest to leave the premises. Water Safety & Dock Use: Dock use is at your own risk: Please use caution around wet or slippery surfaces. The dock may be steeping depending on ocean tide. No diving from the dock or boats: Water depths and underwater terrain are not suitable for diving. Life Jackets: Life jackets are recommended for non-swimmers near the dock. Swimming is at your own risk Kayaks: Sign liability waiver before use Life jackets must be worn at all times Bailer bucket must be kept within the kayak Limit use to 2 hours to be mindful of other guests who may be waiting to use kayaks Never paddle alone- always go with at least one other person. Inform someone of your planned route and expected return time. Monitor weather conditions- kayaking is not permitted during high winds, heavy rain, fog, or other unsafe conditions Kayak use is limited to daylight hours only- no nighttime paddling allowed First-come, first-serve- Kayaks available on a shared-use basis. Please limit your time during to 1-2 hours during busy periods so all guests can enjoy access. Return Equipment- Kayaks, paddles, life jacket, and other supplies must be returned to their storage racks after use Rinse off any mud, sand, or plant material to preserve the equipment. Report any damage (cracks, loose seats, or missing gear). Do not attempt repairs yourself No dragging kayaks across rocks or rough surfaces- please lift and carry kayaks Do not disturb wildlife- avoid approaching marine life, nesting birds, or shoreline animals. Maintain a respectful distance. No littering- Carry out everything you carry in. Bring a dry bag or container for any waste. No alcohol or substance use before or during kayaking All minors must wear life jackets and be accompanied by an adult Communal Areas- Gazebo & Beach Shack Be considerate of other guests- please limit your time in communal spaces during busy periods and share the space fairly. Leave it better than you found it- wipe surfaces, remove personal items, and dispose of garbage in proper bins after use. No reserved seating- communal areas are first-come, first-served. Do not leave belongings to hold space. Keep noise to a minimum- use quiet voices and avoid loud music or phone calls to maintain a peaceful retreat environment. No glass containers- for safety, only use non-breakable drinkware in shared outdoor and indoor spaces. Do not leave food, drink, or coolers to avoid attracting wildlife or pests. If an event is taking place at the gazebo, please be respectful and avoid using the surrounding area. Staff will notify guests in advance if a private event is scheduled. Shake off excess dirt from footwear before entering to keep shared areas clean Report any damage or maintenance needs- Let us know promptly so we can keep these areas safe and pleasant for all. Sauna Do not turn the sauna off- sauna is set to a timer of 8:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Shower before entering to preserve the wood and hygiene of the sauna Limit sessions to 30 minutes to be mindful of others who may be waiting to use the sauna No alcohol or food in the sauna to ensure safety and prevent spills and damage No cosmetic products to prevent damage to the wood and out of consideration to other guests' sensitivities Towels required-sit on a towel at all times. If you feel the indoor cleanliness does not meet reasonable standards, we welcome your feedback or review and you may also request our assistance for cleaning services. However, cleanliness concerns alone do not qualify for a refund. Unmet personal expectations (e.g., \"It felt smaller than the photos\" or \"I didn't like the mattress\") Lack of 24/7 On-Demand Communication- Any requests for assistance must be done between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our team is unable to provide 24/7 assistance. Unfamiliarity with Off-Grid or Rustic Systems- Confusion while using amenities such as composting toilets, incinerating toilets, indoor fireplaces, outdoor fire-pits, etc., when instructions were provided. Luggage & Transportation- While our team takes care when handling guest luggage on the boat and in on-site vehicles, bags may be exposed to the elements and could get wet or dirty due to rain, splashes, or rugged terrain. We recommend bringing sturdy, weather-resistant luggage and using dry bags or waterproof covers for any important or sensitive items. Mobility & Terrain: Please note that our property features uneven terrain, natural pathways, and some inclines. Guests are responsible for walking to and from their units, and the layout may not be suitable for individuals with mobility challenges. If you or someone in your group has any mobility concerns, it is your responsibility to notify us before booking or well in advance of your stay, so we can advise on suitability and possible accommodations. Noise from nature, nearby units, construction, or transportation services, especially if outside the host's control. Noise from a nearby train may occasionally be present- as a precaution, please bring earplugs or noise protection. Weather-related issues, including rain, wind, and cold temperatures, or smoke from nearby wildfires (unless under evacuation orders). Please note that weather conditions may impact boat shuttles and the use of outdoor amenities including hiking trails, kayaks, fire-pits, outdoor seating, etc. Insects or wildlife encounters. Our retreat is located in a remote, natural setting where encounters with insects or small critters are possible-especially if doors or windows are left open.Our team thoroughly cleans each unit before arrival, but due to the outdoor environment, occasional sightings may occur. This is a normal part of staying in nature and not considered grounds for refund. To minimize these encounters, please keep doors closed and follow any guidelines provided to you. Power outages- Our property is located in a natural and remote area where occasional power outages may occur during stormy weather conditions. In most cases, these are temporary and do not affect the core functions of your stay. Unless the outage renders the property unsafe or uninhabitable, we are unable to offer full refunds or cancellations due to loss of power. We recommend bringing headlamps, flashlights, and charging portable devices when visiting during stormy or high-demand seasons. For power outages in which the outage is brief or partial, and the stay is still functional (e.g. lights out but water and toilets still work), guests are not entitled to a partial refund. For power outages lasting more than 4 hours during the hours of 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. in which the lights and toilets do not work, guests are entitled to a 50 % refund. Electric Fencing- Please note that each yurt and dome is surrounded by electric fencing to deter wildlife. Instructions on how to turn off the fencing at the gate entrance will be provided during check-in. Turning off the gate fencing only deactivates the electric current at the entrance; the remainder of the perimeter fencing will remain active at all times.
